De Nooij and Emgen meet NFPA counterparts in Boston
21 february 2017

Fruitful cooperation between organisations and their staff starts with understanding and communication. Riskonet’s Tom de Nooij (The Netherlands) and Özlem Emgen (Turkey) met with NFPA officials in Boston and found the U.S., Dutch and Turkish flags were raised to welcome them.
The two-day conference was initiated to strengthen the bond between NFPA and Riskonet and to coordinate further cooperation. De Nooij had visited NFPA’s headquarters dozens of times, for Emgen it was the first time. “As Riskonet is NFPA’s relation in Europe, meeting with NFPA’s counterparts in person was expected to increase understanding between the two parties”, Tom explains.
Application and promotion
Several topics connected to the application and promotion of the NFPA standards were discussed. Especially the need to adapt certain parts of standards to the European situation and the use of dedicated metric standards raised lively discussions.
De Nooij and Emgen were happy to be able to meet operational staff members as well. “With all the NFPA seminars and training sessions we at Riskonet organise in Europe, it was good to meet face to face with staff members responsible for marketing and promotion of these meetings. It is great to look them in the eyes and discuss current and future cooperation.”
